I could see mom wanting to check out a fight, too, lol

It just so happens your mom and I went to the Ryman...the old one (unfortunately no shows then), and went next door and put our names on the wall at Tootsies. That was supposedly the big hangout bar for the old opry players..Hank etc. They'd sneak out the back of the opry and go down the alley to Tootsies to get a drink. Getting your name on the wall was the thing. It was on our honeymoon, 1980.

We also made the "A" frame there, some biker bar where your mom tried to go watch a fight out back after some lady picked up mom's beer bottle and threw it at the ex-boyfriend. A large biker I quickly befriended talked her out of it. Thank god. It was a dive. That's not on my list, but it did have "character". A bunch of them actually. LOL

Actually, I'm sort of finding the band and the music in the place seems to trump the "place", but I agree there are a few that should be seen. Red Rocks....never made it there, always wanted to. Some do just have to be seen. I'm sure worldwide there are a BUNCH.

Make that Cannery Ballroom. I always say Bowery on accident because I am delusional and pretend I live in New York. Oops!

The Ryman was the original Grand Ole Opry and is where all the old school favorites (Cash, Elvis, etc) performed. Its acoustics are mindblowing - it seats about 2000 but is so, so intimate and personal. It's the best venue in Nashville, easy. The current one is nothing special.

Other Nashville venues? None that are worth going on this list, I don't think. The Bowery Ballroom is a gorgeous space but not especially great for seeing shows because it's got kind of a weird layout.

Hmm thanks for the correction. Not sure about the Ryman vs. The Grand Ole Opry. I'm going to assume you know more about this than I do, since I'm not particularily familiar with Nashville. Any good places you know for me to brush up on my Nashville music venues?

Tennessee's got another e. And I assume you're talking about the Ryman? It's a fantastic venue - much better than the current Grand Ole Opry House.
