Handwritten Lyrics

For some reason lyrics have popped up a lot in the last day or two of my life. The elbo.ws/vanilla forum has a lyrics thread now, I used one of my favorite lyrics to open a speech today, and a friend of mine had “what’s you favorite song lyric?” for her away message. Put it all together and I think it’s a good day to share a few of my favorites. Many are from The Grateful Dead, since I’m a huge fan of Robert Hunter’s writing, and I love Tom Marshall’s writing for Phish but don’t have many favorite lyrics picked out from him. Anyways, here they are, make sure you all leave some additions in the comments.

Control for smiler’s can’t be bought
-Phish, “Stash,” lyrics by Tom Marshall.

Oh well a Touch Of Grey, kind of suits you anyway
-The Grateful Dead, “Touch Of Grey,” lyrics by Robert Hunter.

If you get confused, listen to the music play
-The Grateful Dead, “Franklin’s Tower,” lyrics by Robert Hunter.

I may be going to hell in a bucket, babe, but at least I’m enjoying the ride
-The Grateful Dead, “Hell In A Bucket,” lyrics by John Perry Barlow.

Brown eyed women and red grenadine, the bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean
-The Grateful Dead, “Brown-Eyed Woman,” lyrics by Robert Hunter.

A day without a buzz is a day that never was
-Keller Williams, “A Day Without A Buzz,” lyrics to my knowledge are just a saying, but Keller is the only one I know to have used them as lyrics.

Any favorites anyone? They don’t have to be jam bands, naturally, these are just the ones I keep earmarked so to say

Impressive Tom, good picks, too. I was thinking about including “Wraith Pinned To The Mist” but it slipped my mind.

I feel like there’s a slight theme or trend to these examples… lots of roads.. journeys… obstacles.

At the same time mine all have something of a recreational tone perhaps? or maybe just about enjoying yourself.

hmm. my lyrics do have a theme of traveling, escaping, exc. this could have something to do with me living with my mom and wanting to go somewhere where there are women other than my mom. i also just want to travel all over in general. it’s the goal of my life i’d say. but, for my sake, let’s leave the psychoanalysis of this sort of thing for another day.

i like your lyrics too. they have a feel of an easy going/laid back person. i guess we are our favorite lyrics. it’s pretty cool to think about it. nice idea for a forum.
