iPod Predicts End of World; Plays REM

iPod Tarot

I just found an entry on WikiHOW that explains an interesting way to use your iPod as a Tarot card deck. By making a playlist of 78 songs, renaming them as the cards, and (if you have iPod video or nano) putting the cards as the pictures on the songs. I normally might not be that interested in this, but, one of the things that really sticks out is that you use songs that correlate to the cards’ meanings. For example, if there’s some song that spells disaster or something, you could use REM’s “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine).”

Tarot’s not exactly my cup of tea, but this is a cool little iPod hack that could spawn some similar uses in the future for me, though I can’t figure out what yet. Has anyone seen any other stuff you can do like this?

Fountains of Wayne

fountainsofwayneFor those of you that didn’t realize, the “Stacy’s Mom” creators are actually an extremely talented and catchy band. The band has a new release titled Traffic and Weather coming out on April 3rd, and they’ve got a sampler of the single “Someone To Love” to listen to. I’m really liking it, you can check out the eCard here.

Summer Camp 2007 Artist Update

Monday, February 5th, 2007

The first round of Summer Camp 2007 artists has been posted, and that means good things for readers of Burning Oak, because that means it’s about time to be starting the Summer Camp Artist Series. If you weren’t around before May of last year, I recommend check out last year’s series, which profiled every single artist present Friday to Sunday of Summer Camp 2006.

This year’s lineup includes:

Les Claypool
Keller Williams and the WMD’s (including Keith Mosely of String Cheese Incident, Gibb Droll, and Jeff Sipes)
Medeski Martin & Wood
The Wailers
Tea Leaf Green

New Monsoon
Oteil and the Peacemakers
Groovatron
Assembly of Dust
Family Groove Company
Cornmeal
U-Melt
Rev Peytons Big Damn Band

Chicago Afrobeat Project
56 Hope Road
Public Property
The Station

These artists are in addition to the originally announced moe., Umphrey’s McGee, and Keller Williams, who it appears will be playing solo and group sets.

Check out more info on the festival at SummerCampFestival.com.

Public Property Confirmed @ Summer Camp 2007

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Public Property has announced on their newsletter that they will be returning to Chillicothe, IL, for Summer Camp 2007:

Public Property won the battle and will play at Wakarusa in June. Also, we just found out that we will return to Summer Camp in May.  As the summer tour comes together, we will continue posting the dates on myspace and our website.  Hopefully 10k will invite us back in July.

I’m a huge fan of the band and hope to see them start touring into Illinois more, since I’ve only had the chance to see them once at 10,000 Lakes 2006. Here’s a little something if you’ve never listened to the band:
