Summer Camp Artist #20 - Umphrey’s McGee

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

Lucky #20 in our Summer Camp Artist Series is Umphrey’s McGee. I’ve decided to get a few of the larger Summer Camp Artists out of the way a little differently, since most people going to the festival will already know about the bands and be familiar with their work. That said I’ve got some sweet video to show from All Good 2004 of Umphrey’s McGee. The video is “Utopian Fir>Thin Air>Interview>Thin Air.”

And of course, check out the band’s newly designed website and add the band as a friend on MySpace.

I’ve also chosen to include one of the band’s podcasts off of their website, which you can check out a list of here.

Umphrey’s McGee opened up at the Denver Fillmore with, one of their oldest tunes and concert staples, the epic Der Bluten Kat. The post-rock Robot World leads into the band’s unique interpretation of Norwegian Wood. Huey Lewis guests on a cover of one of his tunes, Heart and Soul, continuing the relationship started at the Jammy’s in 2005, and continuing to his guest slots on Safety in Numbers.

Many thanks again to JamCam for offering and hosting the file, check out their site and give them some lovin’, and make sure you sign up for their email list when you’re there.

Summer Camp Artist #15 - Tea Leaf Green

Monday, April 24th, 2006

Well, today marks the first Summer Camp Artist Series Video. Thanks to JamCam we’ll be able to provide you with a handful of full-length videos of Summer Camp ‘06 Artists that you can download and view here freely, and they’ll be included with future Summer Camp Artist Series posts.

Our first video and Summer Camp Artist #15 is Tea Leaf Green. TLG has been getting tons of press within the last year and rightfully so. I managed to see these guys open up for Trey Anastasio in November of 2005, and they can cover a lot of ground in 45 minutes, I’d be delighted to see what they could do with a few hours to open up and jam. The California quartet has been playing shows since 1999, and you can expect very big things from them in 2006. In addition to their regular day show, they’ll be performing a Summer Camp late-night on Saturday with RAQ.

As always check out the band’s website, and befriend the band on MySpace. One note about Tea Leaf Green’s website: This is what every other band should strive for when designing a website. Complete setlist, pictures from as many shows as possible, podcasts, RSS feeds, forums, fan involvement. Point is, there’s quite a few artists who should take a page out of TLG’s book.

For your Tea Leaf Green fix of the day, I’ve included their late-night Wakarusa 2005 set including footage of the second track, compliments of JamCam.
